I {heart} handmade

I am taking a departure from crafts today to share with fellow foodies. But, not a departure from handmade. Recently, I discovered a wonderful website . . . www.foodzie.com. Foodzie is to food what Etsy is to crafts. Think small business . . . handcrafted . . . packaged with care.

Adams farm is a local farm near my home. I feel blessed to have a local farmer to buy from and feed my family. Check out your local farmers. They are very knowledgeable and put their hands and heart into their craft as many artists do.

Vintage Valentine Goodies

Here are the goodies I received from my swap partners participating in Heather's Valentine Inspiration Box swap. {Thank you Heather for hosting such a fun event!}

This velvet beauty is from Cheryl Crow. It reminds me of a lavish box of chocolates {decadent and romantic}.

Cheryl wanted to give us a flavor of the California coast. Enclosed was a special treat of salt water taffy and sea shells. {How did you know I love sea shells!} The tiny bottle of seashells is going on my desk Cheryl!

A vintage girl's candy store ~ bling, trim, paper, oh my!

It was very thoughtful of Cheryl to include a "peachy" valentine. This Georgia girl thinks that is such a sweet gift.

I love Pamela's sweet details on her box {crochet flower, vintage lace, button drawer - yummy!}

I can't tell you how exciting it was to open it! Remember when you were a kid who still believed in Santa Claus ~ just like that ~ magical.

Oh my! So many pretties! See that small key on the lower left hand side? Love it sewn to one of the felt hearts.

Love the vintage flower trim. Sparkly brooch ~ you may have to be Ms. Madeline's {my dress form} next adornment.

Thank you for all of my goodies Pamela! They get my muse ignited for vintage Valentine fun.

Sweet LiLi sent the most adorable tag on her box.

What is this sweet trinket I have spied? Is that a thimble attached?

It is the most adorable and compact sewing kit ~ how sweet! I did not discover this until later but if you unscrew the end of the spools, a compartment for your needles is revealed. I wish we had sewing kits this sweet here in the states.

Bookmark Bliss

It has been a crazy week. Doing something creative has always been a welcome respite for me from weeks like these. Do you remember the Somerset Life Publication with an article about making bookmarks from velvet ribbon, jewelry findings and jewels?

This is one of those quick projects I have earmarked on my many crafty "to do" lists.

Here is the result:

I love aqua and pink together. However, I thought I would try a nice raspberry with the aqua. I love the juicy color combination.


I am off to dig up a few more velvet ribbons and some sparklies!

My First Swap

When I saw the invitation to join Heather's Petite Inspiration Valentine Box swap at the Speckled Egg my heart skipped a beat! What fun! I had never participated in a swap before and this seemed like a fun one to jump in on.

Here is a pic of the boxes I sent to Cheryl, LiLi and Pamela. My swap partners are so sweet and talented. It was such a joy to be able to share this fun experience with them.

I know it is hard to see, but I used Stickles on the image to highlight some of the details. I had some crepe paper on hand which I ruffled on my sewing machine. It was tricky at first but once I got it going it was kind of fun! I lined the inside of the boxes with the same pink toile paper on the outside.

Vintage Valentine goodies!


The Imperial Sweets card is a reproduction ~ I love its vintage vibe just the same.

Some millinery, trim and buttons can be just the thing don't you think?

See what looks like a piece of candy on the left? I thought it would be fun to package some red eyelets in a vintage style fabric candy wrapper style. Wouldn't it be fun to make a candy jar full of small treasures wrapped like that for a crafty friend?

Small Treasures

Sometimes it is the small treasures that get me most excited. I had purchased a piece of chippy tin. It is beautiful and decorative on its own. However, I thought it would be sweet adorned with some satin ribbon. Using a Crop-A-Dile {love my CAD}, I punched two holes near the top to run the ribbon through. What do you think?

I love to sew. I think this is why I seem to be drawn to sewing boxes and collectibles whenever I am on the hunt. What tools where the favorite of the women who sewed before me?

In one such sewing box, I found the sweetest alligator clip covered with felt mittens. I don't know what this was used for. But, the care taken to stitch something you might use everyday inspires me to treasure the small things and those things which bring me joy.

I love the graphics on this needle case. It seems everyday items were presented very artfully back then. Maybe it was because sewing was more important. Maybe it was because women were drawn to such pretty graphics! Some of us are still drawn to them today.

Here is a guide book for a Singer sewing machine. I like the colors and graphics. Hmm, could be a great foundation for a sewing ephemera project?

A peek at the inside . . . oooh!

Mixed with all of the items from the sewing case was this exceptionally beautiful needle case. The colors are such an inspiration for the next card or sewing project.

Check out the interior . . . WOW! It is in great condition.
